Kenya: Stop COAL. Not in Our Country!

Dear Ambassador Wu Peng, we urge you to STOP all coal investment in Kenya by Chinese SOE (State Owned Enterprise). Coal power is dirty, deadly and outdated technology.

Why is this important?

As a World Heritage site, Lamu belongs to all the peoples of the world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection, and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.
Study reveals that the Coal industry pollution is killing people in South Africa. From miscarriages, respiratory diseases to cancer. Kenya is not ready for such a burden.
The setting up of a coal plant in Lamu will greatly affect tourism and fishing depriving the people of Lamu their main source of livelihood.
Together we are calling on the Chinese government to put a STOP to ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China) and Power China investments in coal mining in Kitui and coal-fired power plant in Lamu.
